Doha - The New York Times report is inaccurate and, on the contrary, Al-Jazeera intends to mobilize funds through an initial public offer to be financially self-reliant, Editor in chief of Al-jazeera Ahmed Sheikh said in a press conference on Sunday Feb. 6, 2005.
Ahmed Sheikh was commenting on a question about a report which appeared in NYT Jan. 31, 2005, Gulf Times wrote."Right from day one of Al-Jazeera, it was decided that the channel would be independent and become a private institution in the future," the daily added quoting Ahmed Sheikh. The buzz about Al-Jazeera sparked following the appointment of a new board of directors in last January by an Emiri decree. The new board, Ahmed Sheikh further noted, has the task of submitting a report to the Qatari cabinet on the best way to turn the channel into a private shareholding company."We will open new newsrooms, very strong colors and a very attractive and enhanced visual appeal", he said. Al-jazeera is the largest Arabic News Channel in the Middle East offering news coverage 24 hours a day with focus on the hottest spots of conflict.Founded 8 years ago, and based in the capital of Qatar, Al-Jazeera news network is the fastest growing network among Arab communities and Arabic speaking people worldwide, according to reports. With programmes focusing on latest news and analysis, the station came into focus to earn the loyalty of a large audience and enmity of several critics who argue that it shows bloody images from various war zones and video and audio tapes of the most wanted faces of Al-Qaida.
